Actually, the active desktop is the easiest part. The only part of the screenshot that is the active desktop is the wallpaper (just the photo) and the 3 search bars.

First, you must create a html file. Just make your wallpaper photo the background for this html file. Then, just add the html code to search whatever websites you want (a google search should give you plenty, or I can post what I used when I get home).

Then just right click on the desktop > properties > Desktop > Customize Desktop ... >Web > New > Choose the html file you just created > ok > ok > just choose white for your desktop color, it shouldn't matter because the background photo in the html will override it.

I hope this makes sense. Play around with it, there are alot of online tutorials about this. When you actually do this, it may not cover the whole screen. The active desktop works like a window, so there should be a maximize button on the top right.

Post any more questions\problems if you have any.

Thanks, and I agree about the taskbar ... i've only been using samurize for a couple of weeks and haven't had time to look at other programs to take care of the taskbar ... and suggestions?

I also agree about the system monitor, but like I said it is a work in progress. And yes, the 3 search bars are active desktop (along with your wallpaper).

thanks again.

thanks Zing for that short tutorial. I got it. It's pretty cool. I like yours a lot. good work.

it sounds like you can click the icons and change the samurize screens right on your desktop - is that true??? That's awesome, how do you do THAT????

Thanks ... I saw your download, but never got around to actually downloading it, so I don't know how it works. I just used the radar function in weather.2004 and created 8 configs and added the "zoom" feature which links the 8 configs together. So there isn't a time frame when the maps actually change automatically, you just click zoom in or out, or on any of the zoom 'tabs' and it opens the corresponding config ... and appears to zoom in and out.

Probably not ... there is just too many adjustments that would have to be made by whoever downloaded it. Plus, it is really an 'interactive' desktop between Samurize and Active Desktop, which is also 3 html files that would have to be worked out.

Basically, the time spent getting mine to work on someone elses setup, they could just redesign it.

Although, anyone who wants tips or how-to's ... just ask.

Well, the first step is to get the right url for the flash file ...

try:

Weather 1

Weather 2

I can't get the city link to work ... ie, mine zooms in one step further to a city. I have heard that the city works for some countries but not for others. Anyways, you can still click on a city and it brings up the data. Or you can click on the continent ... world, etc in the bottom right to check anywhere in the world (hence my use of the term 'interactive'.

After that, you just insert it into the html file(s) that you are using for your interactive desktop. If you use front page it will do it automatically, otherwise a quick google search of embeded flash files or somethink like that will bring up some tutorials.

Any other questions ... let me know ... zing.
